Oh What A Beautiful Morning!

That’s right…I’m quoting Rodgers and Hammerstein. But it really is a beautiful morning…that nice cold morning indicative of spring where you can’t wear a jacket because in another hour it’s going to be hot. If only my sinuses weren’t plugged, I probably would have been able to smell that mountainesque air that I so adore. But anyways, this beautiful morning reminded me that there are several things to share with y’all. I came up with an alternative storyline while watching The Mask the other day. It was right after the scene where Tina (an undiscovered Cameron Diaz) visits Stanley (Jim Carrey) in jail and says she’s going away for a while. I didn’t see or hear from Tina for a couple of months. Dorian succeeded in taking over the city…unfortunately, being a petty thug, his empire quickly devolved into civil war…Lieutenant Kelloway was killed in the resulting crossfire and in … Continue reading →

Assassin’s “Fixer Upper” proves that Bob Iger isn’t a Szechuan aberration

A co-worker was poking around Google Maps and stumbled upon this unusual, yet practical demonstration of chromatic aberration (Wikipedia). Us Weekly | ‘Fixer Upper’ Was Presenting a ‘Security Issue’ for Chip, Joanna Gaines So beautiful! I’ve only seen the show a handful of times, but the hosts always struck me as genuinely good people and this only confirms it in my mind. PC Gamer | For better or worse, Assassin’s Creed: Origins is an RPG now This very much whets my appetite for more. 27 October can’t get here fast enough! Polygon | Disney chief was consulted about decision to kill Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens I don’t know why, but this feels like Iger trying to (unneccesarily) prove that he’s a mover / shaker or something. Polygon | Rick and Morty fans, McDonald’s is bringing back Szechuan sauce This is very amusing to me. I don’t … Continue reading →

Paul chorus / interlude Jon Growing up in Michigan, you didn’t go outside in winter But you could play outside in the summer humidity Sometimes my mom would splurge and get me a gallon of grape drink First choice was always water, but I was only interested in something sweet So I would decline and go back out playing Pleasure center of my brain was looking for that dopamine hit from sugar When I finally got desperate, I would pick up the hose, no matter where it was lying, no matter what it smelled like, put my mouth on it and quench my thirst Liquid is discussed a lot in the Bible 4 But he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, … Continue reading →

Paul Jon In the middle of a series on being a Spirit-filled community Gospel is an explosion around us God shrapnel all around Talk about the family nature Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Romans 12:9-13 (NRSV) The non-selectivity The non-privacy I like that phrasing, mutual affection Phileo has to do with brotherly and sisterly love Storge has to do with devotion You don’t choose your siblings, you are born into a family, it is a gift given to you, a natural kind of love He uses storge because there must be something deeper going on It’s … Continue reading →

Paul Maria Prayer for the offering Paul Ed. Note: Just an amazing thought inspired by “love endures forever” about how God was spurned by his lover, but he was the “bigger man” and sacrificed all to win us back. Maria Going to read you some passages Luke 9 where Jesus is determined to go to Jerusalem Right now we’re in the season of Lent 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday Funky Christian math where we skip Sundays A lot of Catholics give up meat, resulting in Fish Fry Fridays Here at The Rock, we’re focusing on the idea of giving things away for the benefit of others Letting our self-deprivation bless others Questions: Who is someone in your life that you would like to see thrive? What is one way that you can bless them and remind them that they are loved? Is there someone you feel God … Continue reading →

Matthew Katie Announcements Advent reading Matthew He decided to call off their engagement quietly…and Joseph called Him Jesus Jon This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place. When Mary his mother was engaged to Joseph, before they were married, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband was a righteous man. Because he didn’t want to humiliate her, he decided to call off their engagement quietly. As he was thinking about this, an angel from the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child she carries was conceived by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Now all of this took place so that what the Lord had spoken through the … Continue reading →
